The heart of the restaurant

The Dining Room

Dining room overview

The dining room is the heart of Fresh Plate House, designed to feel both intimate and lively, with a layout that accommodates small groups and larger parties with equal ease. Natural timber tables and chairs bring warmth to the room, while chalk white walls carry a subtle ceramic texture that catches the light throughout the day. Lighting is placed carefully above each table, creating a warm glow that makes the space feel welcoming from lunch through late evening.

Seating and layout

Seating is arranged to offer flexibility, with a mix of booth seating, freestanding tables, and a communal table for larger groups. The booths are upholstered in clay orange cushions that add a soft, playful accent against the timber. The communal table is made from a single slab of Australian timber, its grain running the full length of the piece. The layout allows for privacy while maintaining an open, connected feel across the room.

Ambiance and acoustics

The dining room is designed to balance energy and comfort, with acoustic panels disguised as ceramic art pieces to manage sound levels. Soft furnishings and plants help absorb sound, while the background music selection is subtle and curated. The result is a relaxed sophistication that keeps conversation easy without losing the liveliness of a busy restaurant.

The Bar

Bar design

The bar is a focal point of the restaurant, featuring a counter made from polished concrete with inlaid ceramic tiles in cobalt blue and clay orange. Behind the bar, open shelving displays glassware and ceramic decanters, while pendant lights above create a cozy atmosphere. Bar stools with timber seats and metal frames complete the look, inviting guests to settle in for a drink.

Drinks experience

The bar offers a curated selection of Australian wines, craft beers, and signature cocktails, many served in handmade ceramic cups. Local ingredients feature throughout the cocktail list, and the non-alcoholic options include house-made sodas and infusions. It is a great spot for pre-dinner drinks or a casual catch-up before moving to the dining room.

The Ceramic Table Studio aesthetic

Design Details

Three materials shape the character of Fresh Plate House: handmade ceramics, natural timber, and open shelving. Together they create a space that feels artisanal, warm, and personal.

Ceramic accents

Handmade ceramic pieces are scattered throughout the space, from decorative plates on the walls to custom light fixtures and tableware. The ceramic wall art features brush stroke patterns in cobalt blue and clay orange, while ceramic vases and planters bring greenery into the room. Many pieces are made by local Australian artisans, giving each one a distinct character.

Natural timber

Natural timber is used extensively, from the flooring to the furniture, adding warmth and an organic feel to the modern design. Oak flooring with a matte finish runs throughout the main spaces, while timber tables and chairs show visible grain. Timber beams on the ceiling add character and help define the different zones of the restaurant.

Open shelving

Open shelving units display a curated collection of ceramics, cookbooks, and pantry items, inviting guests to explore and adding a personal touch. The shelves are made from reclaimed timber and are backlit to create a warm glow. Handmade bowls and jars of preserves sit alongside the books, making the space feel lived-in and welcoming.

After dark

Casino Nights Atmosphere

Transformation

For casino nights, the dining room is subtly transformed with the addition of poker tables, roulette, and blackjack setups, while maintaining the restaurant's premium feel. The tables are integrated into the existing layout without disrupting the dining flow. Low lighting and candlelight create a more intimate, exciting atmosphere, and the ceramic decor remains, blending the two concepts.

Game areas

Dedicated areas are set up for each game: a poker corner with a professional table, a roulette station near the bar, and blackjack tables along one wall. The poker table has green felt and a wooden rim, while the roulette wheel features polished wood and brass details. Blackjack tables use custom ceramic chip trays that echo the design language of the room.

Outdoor Terrace

Terrace overview

The outdoor terrace offers an al fresco dining option, with the same attention to design as the interior. Timber decking made from Australian hardwoods runs underfoot, while ceramic planters hold native plants that soften the edges. A retractable awning provides shade and weather protection, making the terrace comfortable through much of the year.
